In 2022 I led the visual development and creation of the Y7S4 Battle Pass rework.

The brief: A choice-based Battle Pass that let players be strategic to get the most out of their experience.

This new functionality called for a high degree of information density and we wanted to make sure to give the player all the tools they needed without overwhelming them. I'm excited to share the result and a small glimpse into the creative process with you.

Map generation is fully automated. When the level designer creates the map using an online tool, the in-game map automatically updates with the new icons and paths.

As the BP was now more complicated to navigate, we tried a lot of to simplify visuals and navigation.
In this iteration, we omitted the 3D side panel preview to give more room to the tiles and tried a carousel-style navigation.
At the time we were also exploring the possibility of having seasonally changing visual themes. This mockup is done in the theme of Y6S3: Crystal Guard.
Simple mockup exploring the carousel concept and an unlock path. We called this "Expanded View".
Proposal for how navigation choices would be made using the carousel. At the time, we were considering a long map with just a few rows, but we scrapped this format when the Cell wanted to explore the idea of a more square map.
"Condensed View" - in this concept, players would be able to either prioritize seeing a larger map or seeing more tiles at once. We later decided that a minimap would better suit our needs.
Tried lots of path styles before settling on one that would offer the best readability and be fully automated once integrated.
The map design was heavily influenced by Massimo Vignelli's NYC Subway maps and internally came to be nicknamed the MetroMap.

For the tiles, we iterated a lot to make the Premium tiles feel valuable. Initially, we wanted something that could be customized to fit the seasonal colourways but decided for stronger brand recognition and readability, a simple gold would suit the needs better.

The final gold Premium visual is done by Stephane Tartelin.
We explored the Classic vs Seasonal appearance by testing the tile design out using the colourways of past seasons.
